Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated on Tuesday that the suspected 'lone wolf' terror attack on Mira Road appears to be a case of self-radicalization. Investigators have recovered incriminating material from the accused's residence.
According to the CMO, Fadnavis remarked, "This appears to be a case of self-radicalization. Several books and incriminating materials have been recovered from the accused's home. He had been living in the US and had returned recently. Preliminary investigations reveal that he had become radicalized and intended to attack members of the Hindu community 'in the name of Jihad,' which is why he perpetrated this incident."
The Chief Minister further added that multiple agencies are investigating the matter, and the inquiry will not be limited solely to the accused but will extend beyond him to identify any larger network involved.
ATS and NIA Investigating the Attack
He stated, "The investigation into this case is currently being conducted by the ATS and the NIA, and the State Government is extending its full cooperation to these agencies. The scope of the investigation will not be restricted merely to the accused; rather, it will also examine the individuals or networks responsible for his radicalization. A thorough investigation of the entire case will be conducted to uncover any potential conspiracy."
Accused Attacks Security Guards
The Maharashtra ATS has initiated an investigation into an attack on two security guards that took place on April 27 near Asmita Grand Mansion in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road. Security agencies are viewing this incident as a potential 'lone wolf' terror attack.
According to the Maharashtra ATS, the accused—identified as Jabar Zubair Ansari—targeted two security guards who were on duty at the location. Eyewitnesses claim that the accused initially asked the guards for directions, then returned shortly thereafter to inquire about their religion.
It is further alleged that the accused attempted to force one of the guards to recite the Islamic *Kalma*; when the guard was unable to do so, the accused attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon. The injured guards have been admitted to a hospital.
