An influential US lawmaker praised India for providing large amounts of vital medical supplies such as hydroxychloroquine drugs to the US on Thursday, saying India has emerged as a leader in the fight against the corona virus.

MP George Holding said, India is one of America's closest and important allies and our relationship has always been supported by both sides in Washington. I am thankful that India has emerged as a leader in the fight against the Corona virus and I am happy that our special partnership remains strong during this global pandemic. Holding is also the co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans. In a statement, an influential Republican lawmaker from North Carolina also praised the role played by Indian-American nonprofit organizations and community organizations in epidemic relief operations in the US.

Holding said, "Seva International (India-based service organization) masks on American soil is working tirelessly to distribute food and is ensuring that people from the weaker sections across the country get food and medicines."

He said that the Government of India is working hard both in our country and America to help the international community in dealing with Covid-19. He said, "It is exciting to see how one of our closest and most important partners can have such an impact on our country from about 10,000 miles away."

Holding said that India has shown that it is committed to keeping supply chains open for drugs and medical products so that the US and India's regional neighbors can benefit from it.

The Republican MP said, "In early April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump worked together to meet the challenges facing international trade amid a nationwide lockdown." Since then, India has provided important materials like hydroxychloroquine to the US. '
