Landslides in various hilly areas near Meppadi in Wayanad district of Kerala on July 30 caused massive destruction. More than 300 people have died due to this natural disaster, while hundreds are injured. Meanwhile, a special camp was started in the disaster-affected areas of Wayanad on Monday to re-issue their official documents to the survivors who lost everything in the landslide. At the same time, the search for the missing people also continued.
Camps set up in schools
These camps are being organized in selected schools of Meppadi here under the certificate/document retrieval campaign being jointly run by the Local Self Government Department, District Administration, and State IT Mission. The District Magistrate said in a Facebook post on Monday that arrangements are being made in the camps for the people staying in camps or other places so that they can come and get their lost documents or certificates.
Search operation continues with the help of these departments
Meanwhile, a 190-member team of NDRF, police, fire brigade, civil defense force, forest department, and rescue volunteers resumed the search operation in five areas of the disaster-hit area this morning. The search for the missing people was stopped on Sunday after heavy rains in Mundakkai and Choorlamala areas.
Video of disaster-hit area surfaced
Meanwhile, a video of the landslide-hit area in Manjachel, Vilangad area of Kozhikode district has surfaced. Let us tell you, that on July 30, the landslide in the Vilangad area destroyed the Malayangad bridge and partially damaged four houses on the river bank. Those living near the river were evacuated to a safe place.
According to the state government, more than 300 people died in the landslide, while more than 130 people are still missing. He said that out of the total bodies recovered, 51 are yet to be identified.
