Weather Update: Fog and cold wave in North India, chances of rain in these areas from February 3

After two days of sunshine, fog has again increased and the icy cold has increased in most areas of North India. On Sunday, there was dense fog along with severe cold in most areas of Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. Due to bad weather and dense fog, train movement was affected and flights were also delayed. According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog and severe cold conditions will persist for at least two to three days. There is also a possibility of rain at isolated places in the western Himalayan regions till February 3.

 

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that on Sunday there was dense fog in Punjab, Bihar and Haryana, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Odisha, North Madhya Pradesh and North-Eastern Assam, Nagaland and Manipur. During this period, icy cold was also felt in most areas of North India. However, there was hope of relief from the harsh cold due to sunshine on Friday and Saturday, but suddenly the mood of the weather changed. North India recorded minimum temperatures between 6-9 degrees Celsius, which was 3-6 degrees Celsius below normal. The minimum temperature in Chandigarh was 7 degrees Celsius in the morning.

 

The mercury dropped to 1.3 degrees in Ooty, Tamil Nadu.

Kashmir-like conditions have been seen in the hill station Ooty in Nilgiri district of Tamil Nadu and the minimum temperature has dropped to 1.3 degrees Celsius. The severe cold has affected life.

 

Snowfall continues in Gulmarg, Tangmarg, Sonmarg

There was snowfall in many high-altitude areas of Jammu and Kashmir's famous tourist places Gulmarg, Tangmarg, Gurez, Sonmarg, and Kupwara, while Jammu remained sunny throughout the day. Due to snowfall in most of the higher reaches of Kashmir and cloudy sky in the plains, the minimum temperature in the valley reached below the freezing point. Due to cloud cover the night temperature has increased significantly. The minimum temperature in Srinagar city was recorded at 3.3 degrees. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be light snowfall at most places in the valley till the first week of February.

 

Temperature below normal at many places in Haryana and Punjab

Punjab and Haryana have also not got respite from the harsh cold. The minimum temperature remains below normal at many places in both the states. Ludhiana remained the coldest in Punjab with a minimum temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius. The temperature was recorded at 6.2 degrees in Gurdaspur, 6.9 degrees in Patiala, and 6.4 degrees Celsius in Bathinda. At the same time, Karnal was the coldest in Haryana with a temperature of 5.6 degrees. The minimum temperature was 6.6 degrees in Ambala and 7.3 degrees in Bhiwani.

 

Snowfall in Rohtang, yellow alert on 31st

Light snowfall occurred on the high peaks including Rohtang Pass in Himachal. It remained cloudy in many areas including Shimla. The cold has increased due to snowfall on the high peaks. Western disturbance is becoming active in the state. There is a forecast of rain in the plains and rain and snowfall in the central and high mountain areas from January 30 to February 3. A yellow alert has been issued for rain and snowfall in central and high mountain areas on January 31. Looking at the forecast, there are chances of the long-running drought in the state breaking. Farmers and gardeners have been waiting for rain for a long time. The wheat seed crop has turned yellow. Due to drought, up to 30 percent of the crops in the state have been destroyed. Due to the minus temperature in Lahaul, water is freezing in rivers and drains.
