West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday said Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi and Director General of Police Manoj Malviya committed a constitutional lapse by not attending the two scheduled meetings with him in three days. Dhankhar's statement came after two top state officials did not attend the meeting called by him.
Police had stopped Suvendu officer from going to Nandigram
The governor wanted to know from the police officials as to why BJP leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari was stopped by the police in January from visiting Netai in Jhargram district even though the Calcutta High Court had ordered that he should not be stopped from participating in any program.
Dhankhar tweeted – Inconsistent constitutional lapse actionable by top officials for the second time in 3 days. He alleged that both the officers not only damaged the reputation of the top services but also violated the essence of democracy despite their repeated calls for a meeting.
He said CS @MamataOfficial, @WBPolice's conduct has grown out of lack of response and habitual disregard for Governor's directions. Instead of upholding the supremacy of the Constitution and democratic values, these officers @IASassociation @IPS_Association have violated the essence of democracy. Dhankhar said that he will ensure that the Chief Secretary and the DGP come within the constitutional framework.
