Making Bhagwant Mann CM candidate
This time the Aam Aadmi Party has declared its chief ministerial candidate Bhagwant Mann.
Since the beginning of the year, there was doubt about the face of the Aam Aadmi Party for the chief minister's post in Punjab. Earlier in the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections also, there was a similar situation regarding the CM candidate. In Punjab, almost half of the Aam Aadmi Party's candidates had left other parties and joined AAP, so there could be a situation of conflict between Delhi and Punjab.
But this time the party high command decided in time and projected Bhagwant Mann as the face of the chief ministerial candidate. For this, the party also got a referendum (referendum) done among its workers.
behind the scenes players
Political expert Sagar Bishnoi, who is watching the Punjab elections at the grassroots level, said that the party's strategist Sandeep Pathak has played an important role in Punjab. Sandeep has studied at IIT, is a London returnee. He has also previously worked with well-known political strategist Prashant Kishor.
Party sources say that Sandeep Pathak has been behind the implementation of the decisions of the party high command. In an interview with the BBC, the party's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh had told that the campaign of the Aam Aadmi Party in the 2017 assembly elections had reached its peak a year ago. The party was already predicted to get a lot of seats and by the time the campaign was over, the campaign had disintegrated.
But this did not happen in this election. A team of five of his juniors was formed under the leadership of Sandeep Pathak, who himself remained away from the limelight of social media and elections.
Punjab was divided into five zones and one person was given the responsibility of one zone. After doing a complete study of each zone, he helped in selecting the candidates for the elections. Along with this, it was also ascertained what kind of resentment can be spread by giving tickets to which candidate. In time, the party also found a solution for this.
In Punjab, this type of management helped the party a lot. Sandeep Pathak had earlier also managed the campaign of the Aam Aadmi Party in the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, in which the party got a big victory.
vote for change
The Aam Aadmi Party has set this narrative from the very beginning in its campaign that for the last twenty years, the people have seen the rule of Akali Dal, BJP, or Congress, so this time the new party should be seen by voting.
At the same time, the party laid great emphasis on its Delhi model, which it calls the model of education, health, employment. He has also made promises like 300 units of free electricity and giving 1000 rupees a month to women above 18 years. At the same time, due to the farmers' movement, problems related to agriculture also came into the discussion and there was a lot of discussion in the elections on the failures of the old governments regarding this.
Malwa campaign
Malwa is the largest region of Punjab, 69 out of 117 assembly seats in the state fall in this region.
In the 2017 elections, the party had won a total of 20 seats, out of which 18 were from the Malwa region. This area was also the main center of the peasant movement.
The party paid more attention to Malwa this time as well. Malwa was divided into three zones and the party launched a vigorous campaign here. The election results show that the party has got more than sixty seats here.
Congress infighting
While on the one hand, the Aam Aadmi Party was taking every step in Punjab, there were reports of instability in the Congress for several months.
Captain Amarinder Singh was removed from the chair of CM and Navjot Singh Sidhu was made in charge of Punjab, about which the disagreement of the Congress leaders came to the fore, this whole matter was becoming public.
This sent a message to the public about the Congress that there is discord within the party. Even if the party wins, perhaps this discord will destabilize the government of Punjab. Aam Aadmi Party benefited from this.
