Prime Minister Modi last met the Greek Prime Minister in New York in September 2019 on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. India and Greece share civilizational ties, which have been strengthened in recent years through cooperation in the areas of maritime transport, defense, trade, and investment.

Greece's Ambassador to India Dimitrios Ioannou has said that the two countries will upgrade their long-standing friendship during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Greece. The Prime Minister will also interact with the Indian diaspora in Greece. The Indian diaspora in Greece has expressed happiness and excitement over PM Modi's visit. Previous high-level exchanges between the two countries also include the visits of former President of India Late APJ Abdul Kalam and former President Ram Nath Kovind in June 2018.
