Jantar-Mantar Kisan Mahapanchayat: Farmers called a Mahapanchayat at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Monday against unemployment. Hundreds of farmers from different states reached Jantar Mantar and demonstrated amid tight security arrangements made by the police. During this, some farmers were also detained by the police. Farmers were also stopped on the borders with UP and Haryana. Know the big things related to the performance of farmers.
Some farmer organizations, including the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), had called for a maha panchayat due to the rising unemployment in the country. A large number of farmers reached Jantar Mantar overturning the barricades put up by the police.
Because of the demonstration of the farmers, additional forces were deployed on all the borders including Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur. Some farmers were detained on the Ghazipur border and taken on buses.
Heavy deployment of police forces was also seen on railway tracks, bus stations, and metro stations. Traffic was also jammed in many parts of the national capital as police checked all vehicles entering Delhi.
The main demands of the farmers are justice for the families of the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri massacre, the release of the farmers in jail, and the arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni, the main culprit of the massacre. According to the formula of the Swaminathan Commission, a law should be made to guarantee MSP. All farmers of the country should be made debt-free, the electricity bill for 2022 should be canceled, the support price of sugarcane should be increased and sugarcane arrears should be paid immediately.
Apart from this, all the cases registered during the farmers' agitation should be withdrawn, India should come out of the WTO and all free trade agreements should be canceled, the outstanding compensation of farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana should be paid immediately and the Agneepath scheme should be withdrawn. There is a demand to leave.
SKM in a statement said, "Today's protest at Jantar Mantar is not a call of United Kisan Morcha (SKM). Some farmers' unions that were part of SKM during farmers' protests 2020-21 are organizing it. "
BKU leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal told that farmers have been stopped from entering Delhi. Vehicles were stopped on Karnal bypass. We are conducting this mahapanchayat peacefully and our program is for one day only. People have come from far away and they should be allowed to assemble. We request the administration to allow the vehicles to proceed.
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait was detained by the police at the Ghazipur border on Sunday. Rakesh Tikait had tried to enter the national capital to participate in the mahapanchayat.
Rakesh Tikait later tweeted after his release, "This struggle will continue till the last breath. Will not stop, will not get tired, will not bow down." He alleged that Delhi Police is working at the behest of the Centre.
Earlier, thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan had camped on the Delhi border for almost a year demanding the repeal of the Centre's three agricultural laws. In November 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi withdrew agricultural laws, saying the government could not convince the protesting farmers about the benefits of reforms in the new law.
