Congress has suffered a major setback in Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress on Tuesday appointed senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad as the president of the state campaign committee, but Azad resigned from the post two hours after he was made the president. The reason for resigning is still not clear.
According to sources, Ghulam Nabi Azad's displeasure is that his recommendations are being ignored, due to which he has refused to take up the new responsibility. However, Congress maintains that Azad has refused to take over as the chairman of the campaign committee due to ill health.
According to the news agency, he has given this information to the party high command. Azad has thanked the party leadership for giving him the new responsibility. Ghulam Nabi Azad is also part of the G23 group apart from the party which advocates many major changes in the party. Amid all those activities, this resignation has raised questions about Ghulam Nabi Azad and his relationship with Congress. Let us inform you that Ghulam Nabi Azad has been awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Center this year.
Vikar Rasool Wani is the new president of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress
On the other hand, Vikar Rasool Wani was made the President of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress. Earlier, Ahmed Mir was the state president, whose resignation has been accepted. 47-year-old Wani is considered very close to Ghulam Nabi Azad. Wani is a senior Congress leader and has been an MLA from Banihal. At the same time, in Himachal Pradesh, Congress has removed MLA Pawan Kajal from the post of state working president. Now Chandra Kumar will be the new state president.
G-23 faction meeting was held at Azad's house on the defeat of Congress
Five months ago, after the crushing defeat in five states, a dinner meeting of the disgruntled G-23 faction of the Congress was held at the house of Ghulam Nabi Azad. After this, speculations of rebellion over the leadership in the party started. In the CWC meeting, Sonia and Rahul-Priyanka had offered their resignations, which were turned down by the leaders present in the meeting, but since then the G-23 faction has been talking about offering a credible alternative for the Lok Sabha elections. This threatened to break the party.
However, this danger was averted later. There was a meeting between Sonia Gandhi and Ghulam Nabi Azad on 10 Janpath. After the meeting, Azad said - Sonia will continue to be the interim president. We have given some suggestions to strengthen the party. When asked questions about their demands, Azad said – cannot make them public.
Azad was trying to become a kingmaker in Jammu eight months ago
Azad dealt a blow to the party when 20 of his loyalists resigned from the post of the State Congress Party. With these maneuvers, Azad was trying to strengthen his foothold in the Jammu and Kashmir Congress Committee, but instead of bowing down, the high command accepted the resignation. A large number of Azad's loyalists in the Jammu region are from Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, and Udhampur districts. There are 12 assembly seats in these 5 districts. Eight months ago, Azad was trying to be a kingmaker by focusing on these districts.
PM Modi has praised
PM Modi has also praised this veteran Congress leader. The occasion was the farewell of Ghulam Nabi Azad from the Rajya Sabha in February 2021. Then PM Modi mentioned his friendship with Ghulam Nabi and narrated the story of a terrorist incident in Kashmir.
PM Modi said- As a friend, I respect Ghulam Nabi Ji based on incidents and experiences. I am sure that his gentleness, his humility, his desire to do something for this country, he will never let him sit in peace. I am sure that whatever responsibility he will take, he will do value addition, contribution and the country will benefit from him.
