The Alliance of Digital India Foundation (ADIF) on Thursday said that the American company Google is grossly violating the order of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and app developers are being charged exorbitant commissions ranging from 11-26 percent. This commission is being charged even after adopting an alternate billing system.
ADIF, a think tank focused on Indian digital startups, has urged all authorities, including the CCI, to act on the matter. Along with this, it has been asked to ensure that Google fully follows the specific instructions of CCI.
ADIF says that Google recently changed the billing requirement for app developers. It states that if a user pays through an alternate billing method, then his or her Google Play service fee will be reduced by four percent. Also, app developers will be forced to pay commissions despite not using any service from Google.
