With the start of PM Narendra Modi's tenure for the third time, the work of taking forward the bilateral relations between India and America has also started. In this sequence, it was decided between the two countries on Monday that decisions will be taken by both sides soon to remove the problems coming in the direction of deepening cooperation in the business, technology, and space sectors.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the Committee on Critical and Emerging Technology (ICET) chaired by US NSA Jack Sullivan and India's NSA Ajit Doval in New Delhi on June 17, 2024. This committee was jointly constituted by PM Modi and President Joe Biden in the year 2022. This was only the second meeting, but the targets set in it for wide areas ranging from defense to communications and from space to semiconductors show the seriousness of both countries.
The US NSA also met PM Narendra Modi late in the evening. Regarding this meeting, PM Modi has written that "India is committed to strengthening the overall global strategic partnership with the US." Before this, a separate meeting was also held under the leadership of Sullivan and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, in which mainly the situation in the Indo-Pacific region, diplomatic and strategic challenges, and regional and global issues were discussed.
Both countries have said, "We share the fact that technology should be designed and manufactured in such a way that we also talk about protecting democratic values and human rights and at the same time strengthen India-US strategic cooperation to make the Indo-Pacific region safe and prosperous in the future."
Needless to say, this statement has been pointed towards China. Doval and Sullivan have also held a meeting with private entrepreneurs of both countries so that they can be involved as important partners in the talks being held on the development and use of technology. India and the US have also decided to create a joint fund of $ 5 million for cooperation in telecommunications, autonomous vehicles, and machine learning.
NASA and ISRO have decided to jointly build a synthetic aperture satellite that will orbit the entire earth every 12 days. This will provide more accurate information about the weather. The earlier announcement of jointly building a battle tank has been reviewed. The progress of the earlier agreement between GE Aerospace and HAL to make fighter aircraft engines in India has also been reviewed. In the communication sector, it has also been decided to rapidly advance cooperation in making 5G and 6G services more secure and building reliable communication-based equipment.
