On Monday, the CBI arrested another suspect in connection with the alleged paper leak of the NEET UG 2026 examination. The accused has been identified as Shivraj Motegaonkar. According to sources at the CBI headquarters, Shivraj is scheduled to be produced before a special court in Delhi at 4:00 PM.
The CBI is expected to formally confirm this arrest shortly. This arrest is part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged paper leak and massive irregularities surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 examination. The CBI is conducting continuous raids and making arrests in an effort to unearth the entire syndicate, which has jeopardized the future of millions of medical aspirants across the country.
Founder of RCC Coaching Institute
In connection with the NEET-UG 2026 examination paper leak case, the CBI has arrested Shivraj Raghunath Motegaonkar—the founder and director of the RCC (Renukai Chemistry Classes) coaching institute—in Latur, Maharashtra. The CBI effected this arrest on Sunday following a seven-hour-long interrogation at his residence in Latur.
Attempt to Destroy Evidence
During the search, the leaked NEET-UG 2026 question paper was recovered from his mobile phone, which has since been seized for forensic analysis. According to the investigative agency, Motegaonkar was an active member of an organized syndicate. CBI sources further indicate that the accused attempted to destroy evidence following the examination. The NEET-UG examination was held on May 3 but was subsequently cancelled on May 12 following complaints regarding the paper leak. The re-examination is scheduled for June 21.
Affectionately known among students as ‘M Sir,’ Shivraj Motegaonkar hails from a humble farming family. Early in his career, he used to go door-to-door on a bicycle to provide private tuition. It is reported that he began his professional journey by tutoring just 10 students in a small rented room in Latur.
Tutored While Riding a Bicycle
According to information shared on his website, after completing his M.Sc. in Chemistry, Shivraj began tutoring students preparing for board examinations and entrance tests. Over the span of nearly two decades, Renukai Career Center (RCC) was transformed into one of Maharashtra’s largest coaching institutes.
A Turnover Exceeding ₹100 Crore
Today, RCC operates centers across several cities, including Latur, Pune, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nanded, Solapur, Kolhapur, and Akola. Every year, more than 40,000 students enroll here. The fees range up to ₹50,000. It is estimated that the annual turnover of the coaching institute—owned by Shivraj Motegaonkar, who has been arrested by the CBI—exceeds ₹100 crore.
