His Indian-origin sympathizers working for the BJP in America have come under the scanner of American agencies. Investigations have started against many Indian Americans. There is also a person claiming to be an old friend and supporter of the top leader. He has played a prominent role in many rallies of the Indian diaspora. This action is being taken in the US under the Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA).

It is illegal for US citizens to lobby for foreign governments. They have to register. Details of activities and fees have to be given every quarter. A US Department of National Security spokesperson declined to confirm or deny the investigation of the two Indian Americans under FARA.

Two organizations got registered in two years

Some people associated with the activities of the organizations told Bhaskar that they are now cautious about their work. Two organizations of Indian Americans have registered under FARA in two years. Ethos Foundation (identified as Indian Foundation) is another organization registered in July under pressure to act.

The Texas-based organization has said that it is working for the Hyderabad unit of the BJP. He has connections with BJP spokesperson Kishore Poreddi. Its purpose is to bring political awareness by communicating with NRIs.

Bulldozers were brought to the rally, and demand for an investigation by the FBI arose

Overseas Friends of the BJP was embroiled in controversy for using bulldozers in the Independence Day Amrit Mahotsav rally. Advocacy groups for Muslims and African Americans criticized it, saying it symbolized the oppression of minorities in India.

There has also been a demand for an investigation by the CIA and the FBI into the growing activities of India's right-wing politics in America. BGR Government Affairs lobbies for the Government of India. In the 6 months from October 2022 to March 2023, it has taken a fee of about Rs 2.4 crore from the Government of India.
