Corona Vaccine Booster Dose: Biological E's corona vaccine Corbevax (Corbevax) has been approved as a booster dose for people 18 years of age and older. DCGI approved Corbevax for emergency use for children aged 5 to 12 in late April. Till that time, this vaccine was being given to people in the age group of 12-14 years.
Biologicals E in May reduced the price of Corbevax for private immunization centers from ₹840 per dose to ₹250. The company said that Corbevax is the first vaccine in India to be approved as a 'heterologous' Kovid booster. The Corbevax booster dose of Biological E can be given within six months of either Covaccine or two doses of Covishield.
The approval came after a recommendation by a Subject Expert Committee (SEC) based on a review of the vaccine's interim safety and immunogenicity data. This approval comes just a month after the vaccine was approved for children aged 12 to 15 years. According to the statement issued by Biological E, getting this Corbevax approved will prove to be a milestone in the country's vaccination journey.
