Because of the increasing cases of coronavirus, restrictions in Mumbai have been extended till January 15. Now restrictions on going to public places will also remain in force. The administration said in its order that the restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC in Mumbai have been extended till January 15. Mumbai Police has prohibited citizens from visiting beaches, open fields, promenades, parks or similar public places from 5 pm to 5 am (12 hours).

The order issued by the Mumbai Police Administration said that these restrictions have been imposed in the direction of preventing danger to human life, health, or safety and reducing the spread of Covid-19 virus. With the rise in cases and the emergence of new Omicron variants, the city remains at risk from the COVID-19 pandemic. The administration had banned all large gatherings before the new year.

Amid the fear of a third Covid wave, 198 fresh cases of Omicron have been reported in Maharashtra. Apart from this, 5,368 cases of coronavirus have been registered in Maharashtra in the last 24 hours, which is 37 percent more than the day before. Mumbai also saw a huge jump in corona infections once again with 3,671 cases, which is 46 percent more than the day before.

These restrictions apply in Mumbai

In the case of weddings, whether in a closed space or open space, the maximum number of people present will be 50.

In case of any gathering or event whether social, cultural, political, or religious, whether in open or closed places, the maximum number of people present shall be 50.

In the case of a funeral, the maximum number of people present will be 20 only. All other instructions already in force will remain in force till further orders.

This order shall come into force from 1 pm on 31st December 2021 and will remain in force till noon of 15th January 2022, in the areas under the control of the Commissioner of Police, Greater Mumbai. The earlier order under section 144 of CrPC, dated 14th December 2021, stands withdrawn.

Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code 1860 in addition to the penal provisions under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 and the National Disaster Management Act 2005 and other legal provisions.
