Corona Vaccine: Can BCG Vaccine Protect From Corona Viruses?

Scientists in Britain have started a test to see if the corona infected can be saved with the help of the BCG vaccine.

About 1000 people are going to participate in the ongoing vaccine trial at the University of Exeter.

This vaccine was developed in 1921. It was formulated for the prevention of TB, but such evidence has been found that it can also be effective in preventing other infectious diseases.

Millions of people may have taken this vaccine in childhood, but still, they will need to take it. This vaccine has been designed in such a way that it prepares the body's immune system or immunity to protect against a particular infection.

But it has such a wide impact on the immune system that by looking at it, it seems that it can save our body from other infectious diseases as well. It can also prove to be effective in the case of coronavirus infection.

Effect of BCG

Earlier in the clinical trial, it was found that the BCG vaccine has been successful in reducing the death rate among the newborn in the West African country of Guinea-Bissau by 38 percent. This decrease in mortality was due to reduced cases of pneumonia and sepsis due to the BCG vaccine.

Studies related to this vaccine in South Africa showed that its effect led to a decrease of 73% in infections of the nose, throat, and lungs. In the Netherlands, there has been evidence of the Yellow Fever virus in the body due to BCG.

Professor John Campbell of the University of Exeter Medical School told, "On a global scale, this can be very important. Even if we assume that it will not work against Covid in that way, it will not work until Covid's Till the vaccine is not prepared or no treatment is found, it can prove to be a relief.

The ongoing trial in the UK about BCG is part of an international study. In countries like Australia, the Netherlands, Spain, and Brazil, this trial is going on 10000 people.

Special attention has been taken during the trial to health workers and those engaged in care, who are most likely to get coronavirus infection. Therefore, if this vaccine is effective then the researchers will be able to know about its effect immediately.

Dr. Sam Hilton of Exeter is taking part in the trial as he is more likely to be corona than anyone else.

Will reduce the effect of corona

"BCG does not allow you to get sick much during the corona, there is a strong possibility of this. So I see it as a hedge for myself. This has led to the possibility that I'll be able to go to work in winter too. "

The World Health Organization's chief doctor, Tedros Adnom Grabius, has written an article in Lancet. In which he wrote that the BCG vaccine has the potential to "serve as a mitigation measure until the disease vaccine is discovered. About coping with Covid-19 and other future epidemics. It will work. "

However, BCG does not provide any solution for a long time.

The BCG vaccine has not been used regularly in the UK since 2005. This is because there are very few cases of TB.

Besides, this vaccine does not prepare the immune system to develop antibodies and white blood cells, both of which prove effective in combating the coronavirus.

Use of the second vaccine in corona

But still, the main objective is to find a vaccine that deals exclusively directly with the corona.

Ten such vaccines are in the final stages of clinical research. One of these vaccines has been prepared by the University of Oxford.

Professor Andrew Pollard of the Oxford Vaccine Group told the, "Most vaccines are made in such a way as to strengthen the immune system against the germ they are designed for. But to create a better immune system Apart from that special germ, we also have to develop the ability to compete with other germs, so that they remain effective in the future also. "

He says, "The problem is that today I cannot tell whether or not you can use another vaccine to avoid corona, because we have no proof about it."
