Coronavirus: what is the meaning of 55-hour 'lockdown' in Uttar Pradesh, what will be closed and what will be open?

Posted on 11th Jul 2020 02:28 pm by rohit kumar

Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in India, RK Tiwari says that the ban imposed in the state from Friday night to Monday morning is not a 'lockdown'.According to him, these are 'restriction' or simply said to be a step taken as a precaution, which will prevent the spread of not only the coronavirus, but also the infection of diseases like dengue, kala-azar, encephalitis and malaria.Every non-essential work will be banned from 10 am to 5 pm on Friday.

In this regard, the office of the Chief Secretary has informed all the district officials.

During this period, apart from essential services, all other establishments have been asked to remain closed, including offices, shops, and food-grain markets and traffic.

Unlock effect?

Officials of the government's health department say that only 22 thousand new cases of coronavirus have increased in the state since the first date of June. Now the number of people infected with the Coronavirus has increased to 32,362 in the entire state. On Thursday alone, the number of infected people crossed 10 thousand.

In Uttar Pradesh, with a population of about 20 crores, the number of people who died of Coronavirus infection has crossed 845.

According to Amit Mohan, Principal Secretary, Health Department of Uttar Pradesh, the state has greatly increased the capacity of the Covid test. He claims that as far as the investigation is concerned, Uttar Pradesh has now come in seventh place in the whole of India.

He said that till the first week of June, the testing capacity in the state was only around 8 thousand, and only 2 lakh 97 thousand samples could be tested. But from June to the first week of July, a total of 7 lakh samples have been tested. He said that at present, three thousand people are being tested for coronavirus per 10 lakh people per day in Uttar Pradesh, which will reach 4,000 soon.

Currently, the rate of coronavirus infection in Uttar Pradesh is 3.2 percent, which is exactly half of the national average.

Is this a better option?

Dr. Jugal Kishore is the head of community medicine at Safdarjung Hospital. He is also the nodal officer of the committee set up by the government regarding the Coronavirus.

In the conversation with the BBC, he says that in the current situation there will be no benefit from the lockdown. No matter which state it is. They say, "When the lockdown was done it was done to slow down the spread of infection. It should strengthen their medical system so that when people get infected Look at the medical facilities already ready for them. Now there is no point in putting a lockdown or it is going to benefit. ”Jugal Kishore says that disaster management law can only be for a limited period. An epidemic lasts for years and its infection also lasts for years.

Now instead of putting a sticker on the people by putting a lockdown, there is a need to do this so that more and more people can get their tests done and get their treatment done. This is a better option than lockdown.

UP where the highest infection?

Experts say that the government has to take the step of 'lockdown' again because the health services in the remote areas of the state have always been bad.

However, the officials of the Health Department say that Uttar Pradesh is the only state that had first announced that people suffering from this infection will be screened and treated free of cost throughout the state. The cases of infection are more in those districts which are adjoining Delhi - like Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar.

Apart from this, the situation in Bareilly, Varanasi, Agra, and Aligarh is also not very good.

The infection is spreading rapidly in the capital city of Lucknow. Whereas in Kanpur, Meerut, Mathura, Ghazipur, and Gorakhpur, the home district of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, many cases have also been reported.

In Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar alone, the number of infected people is over 900.The central government has also expressed concern about the investigation of the coronavirus and the spread of infection in Uttar Pradesh.Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while talking to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, stressed on increasing the test further in the state.

Test boosting effect

Uttar Pradesh Health Department officials say that cases of infection have increased since the investigation was extended.According to the health department of the government, the percentage of infection in Uttar Pradesh is better than the national average among the cases increasing in the state. That is, 69.36 percent of people are also recovering from an infection, which is a good thing.

Home Minister Amit Shah had suggested to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that through rapid antigen test, the infected people should be identified and treated in time so that the death rate can be kept low.

The Health Department of Uttar Pradesh says that around 6,500 'help-desks' have been set up in the entire state to deal with the coronavirus, where investigations have also been made.Due to these help desks, success has been found in detecting infection.

At present, the migrant laborers returning from other states are being identified and a campaign is being run in the entire state to check them because according to one claim, most migrant laborers have returned to Uttar Pradesh.

According to the 2018 report of the National Health Profile released by the Central Bureau of Health Intelligence, in Uttar Pradesh, there is a system of only one allopathy doctor for 19 thousand people.

The condition of health services in remote areas in the country's largest populous state is also full of challenges for the government and officials in this era of the epidemic.

Lockdown status again

Uttar Pradesh is not the only state where lockdown has been created.

In West Bengal too, the state government has announced a complete lockdown for the next week.

The effect of this lockdown comes in 23 districts of the state. There are a total of 434 'Containment Zones' at this time in the entire state. There are 25 such areas in the capital Kolkata alone. In West Bengal, apart from shops selling only essential items, offices and markets will be closed. Even traffic will be banned for the next week.

Apart from the capital Patna in Bihar, a lockdown has been announced for three days in Purnia and Bhabua. During this time religious places have also been asked to be closed.
