Police have made a shocking revelation in the rape case of a second-year MBBS student near a private medical college in Durgapur, West Bengal. Police clarified that this is not a case of gang rape, but rather a case of assault by a man.
The victim's friend has been arrested in this case. The victim had gone out with this friend on the day of the incident. With this arrest, a total of six people have been detained in this case so far.
The student had come to West Bengal from Odisha to study. On October 10, she left IQ City Medical College in the Shivpur area of Durgapur with her friend. The two were going to dinner when some men stopped them. The student was allegedly taken to a forested area and raped.
Friend's Suspicious Role
The student's father filed a complaint with the police, making serious allegations against her friend. The father alleged that the friend deceived his daughter by luring her to a secluded place under some pretext. The police took the complaint seriously and launched an investigation, finding the friend's role suspicious.
Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Choudhary stated that the investigation, based on technical and scientific evidence, confirmed that the assault was committed by a single man. Police had already arrested five other accused who were proven to be present at the scene. The mobile phone snatched from the student was also recovered.
