A sudden, violent clash erupted between two factions at a Gurdwara located in the Duisburg district of Moers, Germany. At least 11 people were injured in this incident. According to eyewitnesses, the altercation escalated to such an extent that knives, kirpans, pepper spray, and even a pistol were used during the melee.

Video of the Clash Goes Viral on Social Media

It is reported that approximately 40 people were involved in the altercation. Just as a religious ceremony was about to commence at the Gurdwara, a dispute suddenly flared up between the two sides, escalating from a physical scuffle into outright violence. Several videos of the incident have surfaced on social media, in which individuals can be seen attacking one another.

Use of Weapons; Atmosphere of Panic

Eyewitnesses stated that some individuals suddenly deployed pepper spray, following which one person fired a pistol, while several others were armed with sharp-edged weapons such as knives and kirpans. However, the police have not yet recovered a real firearm. Preliminary investigations suggest that the weapon used may have been a blank-firing pistol (a type of weapon that does not discharge live ammunition but produces a loud bang and flash).

What Was the Cause of the Dispute?

The police’s initial investigation has revealed that the dispute centered on the Gurdwara committee elections and financial funds. Tensions had been simmering for quite some time between the old and new management factions, with both groups vying for control over the Gurdwara and the authority to make decisions. A middle-aged eyewitness remarked that the attack appeared to have been premeditated.

Police Investigate the Incident

Upon receiving information about the incident, a heavy police contingent was immediately dispatched to the scene. A Special Tactical Unit was also deployed. All injured individuals received medical treatment on-site. Meanwhile, one suspect has been taken into custody, and the police are now working to determine exactly who attacked whom.
