Hearing on hijab controversy will be held again in Karnataka High Court today. Earlier, during the hearing held on Thursday, the counsel for the girls presented their arguments. The lawyer has appealed to the High Court to allow the wearing of the hijab on Friday. The counsel for the girl students who were adamant about going to school wearing hijab said that Vinod Kulkarni said that the hijab issue has created a massive frenzy and mental unrest across the country.

The lawyer further argued that sending poor Muslim girls out of the classroom is against the preamble of the constitution. They should be allowed at least on Fridays and wear hijab for Ramadan. The Quran cannot be ignored, he said. Hijab is not against public order.

The state government put forth

At the same time, during the hearing on Thursday, Advocate General Prabhuling Navadgi, appearing for the state government, presented his side. He has opposed the plea of the petitioner's counsel. Navadgi will present his arguments during the hearing to be held today.

How did the controversy start?

The hijab protests in Karnataka began in January. Some girl students of Government Girls PU College in Udupi district alleged that they were barred from attending classes. During the protest, some students claimed that they were denied entry to the college for wearing the hijab. After this incident, students of various colleges reached Shanteshwar Education Trust in Vijayapura wearing a saffron stole.
