Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday slammed the BJP over the anti-encroachment campaign being run by the BJP-ruled municipal corporations in Delhi. Kejriwal said that if shops and houses of 63 lakh people in Delhi are vandalized by bulldozers, which are considered illegal, it will be the biggest destruction in independent India.
In a meeting with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs on the matter, Kejriwal told them that they should be prepared to go to jail for opposing the anti-encroachment drive being run by BJP-ruled municipal corporations in different parts of Delhi.
Kejriwal said officials of municipal corporations are reaching the colonies with bulldozers and demolishing any shops and houses. If people show them papers to prove that the house or shop is not illegal, they don't check them.
He said in an online briefing that Delhi has not been built in a planned manner, so more than 80 percent of Delhi can be called illegal and encroached. Does this mean that you will destroy 80 percent of Delhi?
We are against the way BJP is running an anti-encroachment campaign. He said that in Delhi about 50 lakh people live in unauthorized colonies, 10 lakh live in 'jhuggis' and there are lakhs of people who have modified balconies or done something which is not according to the original map of the house.
He said that this means that bulldozers will be run on the homes and shops of 63 lakh people. He said that if this happens, it will be the biggest disaster to happen in independent India.
Kejriwal said that the Aam Aadmi Party is also against encroachment and wants Delhi to look beautiful, but we will not tolerate 63 lakh people being made homeless by demolishing their houses and shops, the way anti-encroachment campaigns are being carried out in Delhi. We are against that.
He said that in the last 15 years BJP was in power in MCD and took the money. Now his term ends on May 18. Do you have the constitutional power to take such big decisions? Let elections take place and let that party decide. Everyone knows that this time AAP will come to power in MCD.
Kejriwal said that we want to assure the people that we will find a solution to the encroachment and regularize the unauthorized colonies and give ownership rights to the people living in them.
