'India and Russia can sink their economy...I don't care. Trump resorted to harsh rhetoric when India remained adamant on the trade deal.

Even after the announcement of a 25 percent duty and penalty on Indian imports from August 1, 2025, President Donald Trump has not remained silent, but in the last 24 hours, he has not only made very objectionable comments about the Indian economy and relations between India and Russia, but has also indicated playing the Pakistan card against India.

Trump has boasted of a trade agreement with Pakistan and has talked about extracting oil from American oil fields there and selling it to India.

There has been no official statement from the Indian government regarding these comments made by Trump one after the other, but experts say that President Trump is not happy with the way India has refused to bow down to American pressure on the trade agreement. His statement is the result of this.

'Will develop oil reserves in Pakistan'

President Trump has informed on social media, "We have finalized the agreement with Pakistan, where Pakistan and America will develop large oil reserves. We are going to select the oil company that will lead this partnership. Who knows, one day it will start selling oil to India as well."

There is no trade of any kind between India and Pakistan right now. The top leadership of India is constantly raising the issue of Pakistan-sponsored terrorist activities, despite full knowledge of this, President Trump has made it clear that he will take relations with Pakistan forward.

However, soon after his announcement, the Pakistani embassy in Washington issued this statement: "The trade agreement was finalised in a meeting between Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, USA Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer on Wednesday. This agreement is the beginning of a new phase of trade relations between the two countries. This will increase US investment in Pakistan's infrastructure and development projects. Both countries are committed to increasing mutual trade relations."

Trump's boastfulness about India's economy

Trump's rhetoric to make the Indian government uncomfortable did not end here. Soon after this, he predicted the collapse of the Indian economy on the social media site Truth Social.

Trump wrote, "I don't care what India does to Russia. They can sink their dead economy at once; I don't care about it. We have done very little business with India. Their tariffs are too high. Similarly, there is no business between Russia and America. Let it stay that way." The language of this comment is certainly the same as that of President Trump, but it is clear from this that he is not giving any consideration to business and strategic relations with India.

India's economy is currently the fastest-growing economy among the major economies of the world. All the agencies of the world, including the World Bank, IMF, United Nations, and ADB, are estimating India's economic growth rate to be between 6.4 and 6.8 percent in the year 2025-26. Emphasis on achieving the target of 500 billion dollars. Not only this, but the bilateral trade between India and America is more than double the bilateral trade between India and Russia.

Trade between India and Russia involves only energy and defence equipment, whereas trade between India and the US is quite extensive. Talks are going on between the US and India to end dependence on China in the global supply chain.

Talks are going on to increase the current bilateral trade of $140 billion to $500 billion between the two countries. In February 2025, President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly announced in Washington that a bilateral trade agreement (BIT) would be signed in 2025 itself. This shows that Trump's comment is different from the truth.
