The efforts being made by the Government of India in the direction of finding a solution to climate change have started showing results. India has jumped two places and is now ranked eighth in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI 2023) published by German Watch, New Climate Institute, and Climate Action Network International. This index is released based on the climate protection performance of 59 countries and the European Union.

India is the only G-20 country in the top ten

India is the only G-20 nation in the top 10 in the ranking released by the CCPI. India's power ministry said in a statement that India will now assume the presidency of the G-20 and lead the world with its climate mitigation policies. Being ranked among the top five globally shows that India is now implementing programs in the renewable energy sector at a much faster rate than any other country in the world.

Climate change's biggest challenge

Earth's average surface temperature has increased by 1.62 degrees Fahrenheit since the end of the 19th century

Recorded an increase of 8 inches in sea level since the last century

59 countries are responsible for 92% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions

The 27th edition of the United Nations Climate Conference ie COP-27 will be remembered for the victory of small, developing, and island countries, which was achieved in the form of the establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund.
