Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin has expressed concern over the Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on September 14. Azhar cited India-Pakistan border tensions, including the Pahalgam terror attack and India's Operation Sindoor.
Let us tell you that the Asia Cup will be held in the UAE from September 9 to 28. India and Pakistan have been placed in Group A along with the UAE and Oman. Azharuddin said in a conversation with IANS, "Looking at the current situation in the country, we should not play this match. Everyone knows what we are facing."
What Azhar said
Azhar further said, "And if we have to play, then we should play every game. We should not select which game to play and which not to play." Azhar also said that these are his personal views and the final decision will be taken by the higher authorities.
The former captain said, 'Ultimately, the government will decide whether to play or not. The decision will be taken by the board, the government, and the BCCI's decision will be accepted. We should not move forward until the problem is resolved.' He also said, 'It does not matter what we say. Whatever the government and BCCI want will happen. Whatever I am saying today, I am saying after thinking.'
About the Asia Cup
Let us tell you that the Asia Cup will be played according to the T20 format, in which there will be a total of 19 matches. Matches will be played in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and the BCCI will be the official host. Let us remind you that both India and Pakistan have agreed not to play on each other's land till 2027. Therefore, the UAE was chosen as a neutral venue.
The Indian team will start its campaign in the Asia Cup against the UAE on 10 September. After the league stage, its match with Pakistan can also be held in the Super-4 stage on 21 September. It should be known that even though India and Pakistan do not participate in bilateral series, they face each other in ICC and ACC tournaments.
