India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj on Tuesday highlighted India's humanitarian assistance to Yemen. He said New Delhi has taken steps for food security in Yemen by prioritizing wheat exports. At the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Yemen, he said, 'India has taken steps to address food security in Yemen by prioritizing wheat exports to the country. Despite our national regulations on wheat exports, we have continued to export wheat to Yemen. To mitigate the adverse effects of supply changes in global commodity markets, he said. We are committed to doing the same in the future.

India praised the Black Sea Grain Initiative

Ruchira Kamboj said two wheat shipments totaling about 85,000 metric tons have left for Yemen within the last 30 days as humanitarian aid under the Black Sea Grain Initiative. We welcome this step and hope that Yemen will benefit from this step. He urged Yemen to pursue a path of peace by abandoning the military approach and expanding troops in a comprehensive nationwide ceasefire.

Yemen should follow the path of peace – India

The Indian envoy said, "Yemen is at a crossroads, where one path leads to a peaceful solution to end the conflict, and the other to the escalation of hostilities, which will only bring suffering to the people of Yemen." He further stressed that the focus should be on cooperative and confidence-building measures for the people of Yemen by starting an inclusive political dialogue to end the conflict.

India worried about attacks on Yemen

“We are concerned by the actions on Yemen and condemn their attacks on ports and shipping vessels in Yemen and the threats they pose to shipping vessels traveling in and out of Yemen,” said Ruchira Kamboj, Permanent Representative to the UN.
