iPhone 18 Pro Leak: Apple May Offer Different Connectivity Features for US and International Models

Posted on 4th Jul 2026 02:18 pm by rohit kumar

Apple is reportedly preparing a major change for its next-generation iPhone lineup. According to recent leaks, the iPhone 18 Pro could launch with different modem and connectivity hardware for the US and international markets, marking a significant shift in Apple's hardware strategy. The upcoming flagship series is expected to debut in September 2026, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro Max and Apple's first foldable iPhone, reportedly called the iPhone Ultra.

The move is believed to be part of Apple's long-term plan to reduce its dependence on Qualcomm by expanding the use of its own custom-designed modem chips.

iPhone 18 Pro Could Feature Different Modems by Region

According to reports, the US version of the iPhone 18 Pro may continue using Qualcomm's latest 5G modem, while international variants could be powered by Apple's next-generation in-house C2 modem, internally codenamed "Ganymede."

The report surfaced after an alleged data leak involving Apple manufacturing partner Tata Electronics, where internal component information related to upcoming iPhone models reportedly became public.

Qualcomm Modem Likely for US Models

Leaked component lists reportedly mention several Qualcomm modem-related chips, including:

SDX80M

SDR875

QDM8771

QDM8720

PMK75

PMX75

QET7100A

These components support mmWave 5G, a technology widely deployed by US telecom operators to deliver ultra-fast mobile internet speeds over shorter distances.

Since mmWave networks are far more common in the United States than elsewhere, Apple may continue using Qualcomm's modem for American customers.

Apple's C2 Modem Expected for Global iPhone 18 Pro

International variants of the iPhone 18 Pro are expected to feature Apple's own C2 modem, which succeeds the company's first-generation C1 modem introduced with the iPhone 16e.

Apple has spent years developing its own modem technology to gradually reduce reliance on Qualcomm. While the first-generation C1 modem reportedly offered improved power efficiency, some analysts noted that it lagged behind Qualcomm in peak network performance.

The upcoming C2 modem is expected to deliver significant upgrades.

Satellite Connectivity Could Be a Major Upgrade

Reports suggest Apple's C2 modem may support:

Advanced 5G connectivity

Built-in satellite communication

NR-NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) support

Connectivity through Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites

If implemented, users could access emergency communication and limited internet services even in areas without traditional cellular coverage.

iPhone 18 Series Launch Timeline

Apple is expected to unveil its next-generation flagship lineup during its traditional September launch event.

The expected lineup includes:

iPhone 18 Pro

iPhone 18 Pro Max

iPhone Ultra (Foldable)

Standard iPhone 18 (expected to launch later)

However, Apple has not officially confirmed the specifications or launch schedule.

Apple's Modem Strategy Gains Momentum

The transition toward Apple's own modem technology represents one of the company's biggest hardware shifts in recent years. By developing in-house connectivity chips, Apple aims to improve hardware integration, optimize battery life, reduce manufacturing costs, and gain greater control over future wireless technologies.

If the latest reports prove accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro will become the first flagship iPhone to feature region-specific connectivity hardware, with Qualcomm powering US models and Apple's C2 modem driving international variants.
