The long-running rivalry between Apple and Samsung spilled onto social media again when Samsung took several jabs at Apple after the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the company's first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo.
Apple unveiled the new devices at its September 9 launch event, marking the company's first entry into the foldable smartphone market. Samsung quickly responded, with Samsung Mobile US sharing a series of sarcastic posts on X targeting Apple's latest products and features.
Samsung Mocks Apple's iPhone 18 Launch
Samsung's social media posts focused on Apple's latest iPhone designs and features, continuing the company's long-running tradition of poking fun at new iPhone launches.
Among its posts was the line, "Let us know when you're done reheating our leftovers," accompanied by a wink emoji. Samsung also used the hashtag #ItsTimeToSwitch in some of its posts, encouraging iPhone users to consider switching to Galaxy devices.
The posts came shortly after Apple unveiled its latest premium iPhone models, including the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Samsung Takes Aim at the Foldable iPhone Duo.
The biggest target of Samsung's social media campaign was Apple's newly launched iPhone Duo.
Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Duo, a book-style foldable featuring a 7.6-inch internal display and a 5.4-inch external screen. The device is powered by Apple's A20 Pro chip and features a titanium frame, dual-battery architecture, and a redesigned iOS 27 experience.
Samsung, which has been developing foldable smartphones since the original Galaxy Fold debuted in 2019, used the opportunity to position itself as an established player in the category.
The timing of Samsung's posts made the rivalry particularly noticeable, as the Galaxy Z Fold lineup has been competing in the foldable segment for years before Apple's entry.
Duolingo Joins the iPhone Duo Banter.
Samsung wasn't the only brand to join the conversation.
Language-learning platform Duolingo also reacted to Apple's decision to call its first foldable smartphone the iPhone Duo. The exchange added another layer to the social media banter surrounding Apple's launch and quickly attracted attention online.
The interaction demonstrated how Apple's product launches can quickly become social-media events beyond the technology itself, with other major brands joining the conversation through memes and humorous posts.
Samsung's Long Foldable Head Start
Apple's arrival in the foldable market puts it directly against Samsung, which introduced the Galaxy Fold in 2019 and has continued expanding its foldable smartphone portfolio.
The iPhone Duo therefore represents Apple's first major step into a category where Samsung already has years of hardware and software experience.
Apple's new foldable features a 7.6-inch internal display, while its outer screen measures 5.4 inches. The company says the device is designed to provide new multitasking and entertainment experiences while maintaining a pocketable form factor.
iPhone Duo vs Samsung Galaxy Foldables
The launch of the iPhone Duo could intensify competition in the premium foldable smartphone market.
Apple is bringing its ecosystem, iOS 27, and A20 Pro chip to the category, while Samsung has the advantage of several generations of foldable hardware experience.
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 in the US and will be available from October 23, with pre-orders beginning October 16.
With Apple finally entering the foldable smartphone race, the competition between Apple and Samsung is likely to extend beyond traditional flagship phones. The latest social-media exchange shows that the rivalry is also becoming increasingly visible during major product launches.
