The US has expressed concern over reports claiming that white phosphorus has been used by Israel in the attack on Lebanon. John Kirby, Coordinator of Strategic Communications of America's National Security Council, said on Monday that America is gathering more information in this regard. He said that America provides white phosphorus to the armies of other countries only with the hope that they will use it properly and follow the rules of war.
Reports of white phosphorus being used in Lebanon attack
Let us tell you that media reports have claimed that Israel had used white phosphorus in the attack in Lebanon in October. John Kirby said that we are concerned about these reports and are gathering more information on this matter. According to media reports, 9 civilians were injured in the white phosphorus attack and human rights organizations are demanding that the case should be investigated as a war crime. Such evidence has been found in the Dehra area in Lebanon, near the Israeli border, which shows that white phosphorus was used in the attack here.
Why is the use of white phosphorus in war dangerous?
White phosphorus is a chemical substance known for its flammable properties. White phosphorus burns when it comes in contact with oxygen. Generally, it is used in artillery shells, bombs, and rockets. Sometimes it is also used to confuse the enemy and create bright light and thick smoke, but if it is used directly on humans on a large scale, it causes severe burning and this burning sensation can reach the bones.
The wounds caused by this irritation take a long time to heal and there is a high risk of infection in them. These wounds can be fatal. Also, upon coming in contact with it, humans may have difficulty in breathing and many body parts may stop functioning. Also, the effect of white phosphorus on the human body can last throughout life. The fire caused by white phosphorus can destroy houses and buildings and if a person gets caught in the fire caused by white phosphorus, it can burn even the bones to ashes.
Israel refused
The Israeli Army has denied these allegations. The Israeli Army said on media reports that they have used white phosphorus in weapons only legally. As it is being claimed in the reports the Israeli Army fired shells filled with white phosphorus, but the Israeli Army has denied this and said that white phosphorus was used only to create smoke and not to set fire.
