Jaishankar is on an official visit to the US. He is the first Minister of India to visit the country on January 20 after Biden became the President of the United States. He met Blinken on Friday.
State Department spokesman Ned Price said Blinken welcomed Jaishankar to the Ministry of External Affairs and reiterated the US administration's commitment to strengthen the US-India Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Blinken said that he had a constructive dialogue today with Dr. S. Jayanskar on regional security and economic priorities, including the US Covid-19 relief efforts, the India-China border situation, and our cooperation for Afghanistan.
Blinken tweeted after meeting with Jaishankar at the State Department's Foggy Bottom Headquarters that as friends we will continue to work together in these areas of shared concerns. At the same time, Jaishankar tweeted that he had meaningful discussions with Blinken on regional and global issues as well as various dimensions of bilateral cooperation. He also spoke on the Indo-Pacific and the Quad, Afghanistan, Myanmar, UNSC affairs, and other international organizations.
Focus on Covid vaccine
Jaishankar said that the India-US vaccine partnership was also discussed, which is aimed at ensuring the supply of vaccines. Appreciate the strong solidarity expressed by America at this time. Today's talks have further strengthened our strategic partnership and our agenda of cooperation.
In response to a question, Jaishankar did not mention whether China was specifically discussed. He said that we discussed the entire Indo-Pacific region.
