Europe is the worst hit by the six-month-long war between Russia and Ukraine. Even this, Europe's largest country and the largest economy, Germany, is in bad shape because of this. This war has not only stopped the wheel of development here but has also worked to increase the difficulties of the common people. There is already a huge shortage of gas due to the war, and now the government's new decision is also on these people. The government has decided to levy an additional surcharge for the consumption of gas in households. Under this, 2.419 cents more will have to be paid per kilowatt of gas consumed.

people will have to lose more pockets

With this new decision, any household will have to pay at least 40 thousand rupees or 500 euros more per month for gas consumption. The government says that a family of four in Germany consumes 20,000 kWh of gas every year. In this way, at present, a family spends 3568 euros or about 4 lakh rupees annually on gas. Now after the new decision, there will be an increase of 13 percent in this expenditure. This simply means that the people here will have to lose more pockets for gas.

Germany's gas importer is in trouble

The government has also said that the German government has taken this decision to give relief to other companies including the gas importer company Uniper. The new decision will come into effect from 1st August and will remain the same till April 2024. Let us tell you that after the Russo-Ukraine war, the gas crisis continues in the whole of Europe including Germany. Russia is constantly giving shocks to Europe about this. The European Commission is also not sure whether this winter's winter will be over or not.

European commission appeal

Because of the shortage of gas, the European Commission has also appealed several times to reduce its consumption. Only last month, the commission had said that buildings should not be kept hotter than the fixed temperature. The commission said that the remaining gas could be used in winter because Russia could stop the supply of gas at any time. German Chancellor Olaf Schultz is also not sure about the gas coming from Russia.

Germany's industry is hesitant

Germany's industry is also hesitant due to the gas shortage. Here, steel group WV Stahl has said that the company is spending an additional 7 billion euros on the company even before gas prices go up. Now 500 million euros will be added to this. The company has said that the government has exceeded the surcharge on gas. So it is getting very difficult.

expert opinion

After the new decision of the government, experts have also started saying that this will increase inflation in Germany. It is already at 8.5 percent. Commerzbank chief economist Joerg Kramer has even expressed fears that the winter could lead to a German recession. The Federation of German Industry has called on the government to implement measures to support businesses. At the same time, Germany is also waiting for a VAT exemption on surcharges from the European Union. On the other hand, the Chancellor of Germany is promising to give an additional relief package to the general public of the country in a week. German Finance Minister Robert Habeck has blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for the situation. He says that Russia has drastically cut its supply in the name of gas (Nord Stream-1 gas pipeline) to blackmail Western countries.
