
Violence continues in Manipur. Meanwhile, the central government is holding meetings to stop this violence. A statement issued by the Manipur Police said that security forces arrested three militants from Tengnoupal and sophisticated weapons were seized from Kangpokpi district.
It said that security forces arrested three valley-based insurgents from Shantong near Lamlong village in Tengnoupal district on June 14.
The statement issued on Monday night also said that "the situation in the state is under control" and security forces are conducting search operations to maintain law and order.
In a separate search operation conducted on Sunday in the Gangpijang hilly area of Kangpokpi district, security forces seized a 7.62 mm AK 56 assault rifle, a PT 22 rifle, a 12-inch single bore barrel gun, two improvised projectile launchers, a Chinese hand grenade, a country-made hand grenade, a 51 mm mortar and live ammunition.
The statement also said that police officials of Assam and Manipur held a joint meeting at Jiribam on the Assam-Manipur border on Saturday regarding the prevailing situation in the area.
Regular patrolling and area domination have been stepped up in the entire coastal area of Barak and Jiri rivers.
The statement appealed to the public to "immediately return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or the nearest security forces."
It said security forces ensured the movement of 117 and 378 vehicles carrying essential commodities on NH-37 and NH-2 respectively. Stringent security measures have been put in place at all sensitive locations and security convoys have been provided in sensitive stretches to ensure free and safe movement of vehicles.
