The order further said, "Curfew may be declared in these areas to stop the violence immediately and to restore public peace in the area."

Hung assembly situation in Meghalaya

A situation of a hung assembly is being created in Meghalaya. No party has got an absolute majority here. The National People's Party (NPP) emerged as the single largest party by winning 26 seats, while the BJP won only two seats.

Congress and TMC got five seats each

United Democratic Party (UDP) won 11 seats, while Congress and TMC got five seats each. The Voice of the People party won four, the Hill State People's Democratic Party and the People's Democratic Front two each. Apart from this, two independent candidates also managed to win.

NPP won 19 seats in 2018

There has been an increase in NPP seats this time. Last time it had won only 19 seats. Now it needs the cooperation of any other party to form the government. Last time, Konrad Sangma became the Chief Minister by forming the government with several parties including the BJP. This time the BJP has contested the elections separately. However, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed that Sangma has sought BJP's support to form the government.
