There was no mediation of anyone in this and no trade deal was discussed. The conversation took place at a time when PM Modi left for Croatia from Canada today after participating in the G7.
Talked on the phone at the request of President Trump
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, 'The meeting of PM Modi and President Trump was scheduled during the G7 summit. President Trump had to return to the United States early, which prevented this meeting from taking place. After this, at the request of President Trump, both leaders spoke on the phone today. They talked for about 35 minutes. After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, President Trump expressed condolences to PM Modi over the phone and also expressed support in the fight against terrorism. This was the first time they were talking after that. Therefore, PM Modi talked to President Trump in detail about Operation Sindoor.'
'...Topics like the India-US trade deal or India-Pakistan mediation were not discussed'
Vikram Misri said, 'Prime Minister Modi told President Trump that during this entire incident, topics like India-US trade deal or India-Pakistan mediation were never discussed at any level. The talks about stopping military action were held directly through the channel between the armies of India and Pakistan. This conversation took place only after Pakistan's request.'
Modi told Trump - India's Operation Sindoor is still going on.
Vikram Misri further said, 'PM Modi stressed that India had never accepted mediation, nor does it and will never do so. There is complete political unanimity in India on this subject. Trump understood the points made by PM Modi and expressed support for the fight against terrorism. PM Modi also said that India no longer sees terrorism as a proxy war but as a war. India's Operation Sindoor is still going on.'
