Afghanistan's star spinner Rashid Khan is playing for the Gujarat Titans franchise team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year. Rashid Khan has been able to take only six wickets in the first four matches. Rashid has told me why he is not able to take more wickets in this IPL season. Rashid believes that the batsmen of the opposing team are playing more cautiously against him and that is why he may not be able to take wickets.
Rashid has picked up six wickets in four matches of the current season at an economy rate of 6.68 but the batsmen have handled the Afghanistan star spinner very well. The 23-year-old Rashid, one of the most popular leg-spinners in franchise cricket across the world, however, is not surprised by this and says he will soon break it. Rashid said, 'I am happy with my bowling so far in the tournament. I don't pay much attention to the results, it depends on how I am bowling. I am bowling very well at the moment. The opponent team is not taking that kind of risk against me which gives you more wickets.
'I will take wickets as soon as I get a chance, I am so smart'
“But whenever I get enough opportunities as a bowler, I am smart enough to get him out. So far I am happy with my bowling. Against his old team Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday, Rashid took one wicket for 28 runs in four overs. Gujarat, however, lost by eight wickets, their first loss after three wins. One wicket away from 100 IPL hunts, Rashid said that he always starts slow in IPL.
'I always start slow like this'
"If you look at the IPL statistics, I always start like this (slow). In the first four to five matches, I take only five or six wickets, not 12 or 13 wickets. It always happens like this. But of course, I will try my best to improve. Definitely, the time will come when I will cast my magic spell. Rashid, who played 80 matches in the IPL from 2017 to 2022, said it has been an incredible journey for him so far. He said, 'Coming from Afghanistan and playing in all the matches after the debut, it is wonderful. Five years ago, I didn't even think of playing in the IPL. Getting close to 100 wickets, becoming Gujarat's vice-captain, that's a big deal.
