Young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been appointed as the vice-captain for the upcoming T20I series against West Indies. BCCI has given this information. Pant has been given this responsibility after KL Rahul was ruled out of the series due to injury. Rahul was ruled out of the T20I series in the second ODI against West Indies due to a muscle strain while fielding. Rituraj Gaikwad has been selected in place of Rahul in the team.

This will be the first time that Pant has been included in the leadership group of the Indian team. He is in the race to succeed Virat Kohli as India's new Test captain along with Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah. Meanwhile, Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the T20I series due to a hamstring strain and Kuldeep Yadav has been included in the squad. Earlier, Axar Patel was out of the series recently after resuming the final phase of rehab after recovering from Corona. All three will be at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management.

The All India Senior Selection Committee included Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda in place of Rahul and Akshar. The team led by Kieron Pollard was defeated by Team India 3-0 in the ODI series. Now the T20 series will be played from February 16. All three matches of the series will be played behind closed doors at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
