S Jaishankar: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar arrives on a Maldives visit, and will sign several agreements

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Maldives on Wednesday on an official visit. He is on a three-day visit to Maldives and Sri Lanka. He is beginning to further expand bilateral relations with India's two major maritime neighbors. Let us tell you that Maldives has always been assisted in development through reliable bilateral partnerships. On reaching Maldives, Jaishankar was received by Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid.

Shahid tweeted and wrote that the Indian Foreign Minister and my dear friend Dr. S. Jaishankar are welcome in the Maldives. This time around, the northernmost atoll will see the impact of developmental work aided by development assistance through the trusted bilateral Maldives-India partnership.

 

Will sign many agreements

In Maldives, he will sign several agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation. He will meet President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and hold discussions with Foreign Minister Shahid. The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday that the minister's visit to Male would include ground-breaking, inauguration, and signing of agreements related to bilateral development cooperation as well as several key India-supported projects. This will contribute to the socio-economic development of Maldives.

 

Maldives and Sri Lanka are major maritime neighbors of India.

The statement issued by the MEA said that both Maldives and Sri Lanka are India's major maritime neighbors in the Indian Ocean region. Also, they hold a special place in the Prime Minister's vision of 'SAGAR' (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and 'Neighbourhood First'.
