Veteran Maharashtra leader Sharad Pawar met the Prime Minister in Delhi on Wednesday along with two farmers from Satara. During this meeting, the farmers presented the Prime Minister with pomegranates from their farm. But, many meanings are being attributed to this meeting in political circles.
Sharad Pawar's party has suffered a crushing defeat.
Sharad Pawar's party NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) has suffered a crushing defeat in the assembly elections held last month. Only 10 MLAs of his party have been elected. His strike rate has also been the worst. Whereas in the Lok Sabha elections held six months ago, his party had contested only 10 seats and won eight seats and their strike rate was the best. In this assembly election, the entire opposition has been wiped out. It has got only 46 seats out of the total 288 seats in the state.
After the poor performance in the assembly elections, the existence of Sharad Pawar's party is in danger. Just a few days after the election results, his nephew Ajit Pawar's party NCP MLA Anil Patil said in a statement that many MLAs of Sharad Pawar's party are in touch with Ajit Pawar. After this, Ajit Pawar's son Parth Pawar also wrote on his x handle that those who believe in Ajit Pawar's leadership are welcome.
Statements increased Sharad Pawar's worry.
These two statements from Ajit Pawar's party are going to increase Sharad Pawar's worry. Because in the previous government, two parties Shiv Sena and NCP with more than 50 MLAs have broken due to the rebellion of two-thirds of the MLAs. This time, only 20 MLAs of the only opposition party Shiv Sena have been elected. Whereas, Congress has 16, and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) has only 10 MLAs. In such a situation, it will not be easy for the MLAs of these parties to remain without power for the entire five years. Not only Sharad Pawar but Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray is also grappling with the fear of a stampede in the remaining party. Therefore, the round of meetings of the heads of these two parties with the ruling party has begun.
Uddhav Thackeray met CM Fadnavis
On Tuesday, Uddhav Thackeray, along with his son Aditya Thackeray, met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Nagpur as a goodwill visit, and on Wednesday, Sharad Pawar went to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi with two farmers from Satara. Earlier, last week on December 12, to wish Sharad Pawar on his birthday, his nephew Ajit Pawar, along with his Rajya Sabha member wife Sunetra Pawar and his sons, had gone to Pawar's official residence in Delhi.
Since the results of the assembly elections, speculations have been made that Sharad Pawar may merge his party with the Congress to secure the political future of his MP daughter Supriya Sule or he may go with his nephew Ajit Pawar. Amidst these speculations, Ajit Pawar's meeting with Sharad Pawar first and now Sharad Pawar's meeting with the Prime Minister along with pomegranate farmers cannot be called normal.
