Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said on Sunday that five finance committees and 10 oversight committees would be appointed to resolve the economic and political crisis facing the country. Wickremesinghe said new committees would be appointed to complement the already existing committees on government finance, namely Public Finance Committee, Accounts Committee, and Public Enterprises Committee. In a special statement, the new Sri Lankan PM said ten oversight committees reporting to Parliament on policies would be appointed and Parliament should act on the recommendations of these committees.
Four youths will be appointed to every committee
Ranil Wickremesinghe said, 'Youth is calling for a change in the existing system. They also want to know the current issues. Therefore, I propose to appoint four youth representatives to each of these 15 committees. He also stressed the need to change the structure of Parliament to strengthen it.

In an official statement, Ranil Wickremesinghe called for the 21st Amendment to the Constitution to make the President and the Cabinet accountable to Parliament. “We propose a National Council. A committee consisting of the President, the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, and the leaders of the major parties is called the National Council. The National Council can talk about the policies of the country as well as the decisions of the Cabinet.
