The earthquake occurred near the Ferndale region of northern California, about 345 km northwest of San Francisco and close to the Pacific coast. The intensity of the earthquake has been measured at 6.4 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of this earthquake was at a depth of 10 miles near the coast. The powerful earthquake was strong along the northern coast of California, causing more damage there. There was extensive damage to roads and homes in the surrounding Humboldt County.
