The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced substantial prize money for the Indian team, which achieved a historic victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup. The Board announced on Tuesday that the entire Indian team will receive a cash prize of ₹131 crore (approximately $1.31 billion). This prize money will be distributed to the players, the coaching staff, and other support staff.
Players and staff to receive a share
According to news agency PTI, this amount includes 15 players, the coaching staff, and other support staff. It is reported that the players will receive the largest share of the prize money, while the support staff's share will be determined according to their responsibilities and positions.
Increased prize money compared to 2024
The ₹131 crore (approximately $1.25 billion) announced this year is more than the ₹1.25 billion (approximately $6 billion) announced after the 2024 T20 World Cup. This means the Board has decided to increase the prize money by ₹6 crore (approximately $6 billion) compared to the previous award.
BCCI Secretary Congratulates
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia congratulated the team, saying, "The Board once again congratulates the players, support staff, and selectors for this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future."
Won the Title by Defeating New Zealand
The Indian team won the T20 World Cup title by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final match played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this victory, Team India not only successfully defended its title but also became the first team in the tournament's history to win the T20 World Cup twice in a row.
India Creates History
With this victory, India became the first team to win the Men's T20 World Cup three times. With this achievement, Team India further established itself as one of the most successful teams in the history of T20 cricket. India also won three consecutive ICC trophies for the first time. After the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy, India also won this T20 World Cup and established India's dominance all over the world.
