French President Emmanuel Macron met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday. After which media reports claimed that the two countries have reached an agreement to reduce Ukraine tensions, but now Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejected all such claims. Peskov said – in the current situation, no agreement has been reached between Moscow and Paris. France is a member of NATO, but it is not leading it.
The intention of military deployment in Ukraine has always been temporary.
French officials were quoted as saying that Russia had promised Macron that the Russian army would soon pull out of Belarus. Also, Ukraine will not conduct any new military exercises near the border shortly. To this Peskov said that the intention of the military deployment in Ukraine was always tentative, but did not make any promises on when this deployment would end. The Russian spokesman also did not make any statement about the new maneuver.
Ukraine tension will not be resolved with a few hours of talks
After meeting the Russian President, Macron also met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Tuesday. During this, Macron said – the tension in which we are surrounded should not be underestimated. I don't think this crisis can be resolved by just a few hours of talks.
Ukraine said - Russia's withdrawal from Crimea is a condition for any agreement
Russia and Ukraine agreed on a ceasefire after an 8-hour meeting in Paris about two weeks ago. Now soon these two countries are going to meet in Berlin. To this, Volodymyr Zelensky said – we look at the meeting in Berlin positively, but so far there is no indication from Russia that it is ready to withdraw its annexation of Crimea. Russia's withdrawal is a prerequisite for any agreement.
Ukraine's foreign minister, Dmitro Kuleba, also said on Tuesday that his government would not agree to any agreement in talks with Russia that violates its sovereignty. We will not cross this red line under any circumstances.
Proposal to make Ukraine a buffer state
A unique proposal was also made on the side of France to reduce tension in Eastern Europe. France says that just as Finland existed as a buffer state between the Soviet Union and NATO in the Cold War without joining any group, Ukraine can also be kept in the same status.
