Taking a tough stand on the TikTok app, the White House on February 27 directed federal agencies to take down the Chinese-owned short video app TikTok. A time limit of 30 days has been fixed for this. Along with this, instructions have been received to remove this app from all the devices issued by the government.

 

In a memo, Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young asked government agencies to remove the app from all IT devices within 30 days. Explain that this ban will not apply to private citizens who are not affiliated with the federal government. However, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a recently introduced bill in Congress would 'effectively ban TikTok' in this country.

In support of the TikTok app, ACLU senior policy advisor Jenna Levantoff said in a release, "Congress should not censor the entire platform." This is against the constitutional right of Americans to freedom of expression.
