As per the calendar, Ugadi is celebrated on the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. According to the English calendar, it falls between the months of March and April. Ugadi is falling on Wednesday, March 22 this year. From this day the spring season begins.

Ugadi festival has great importance in South India. According to the scriptures, Ugadi is considered a symbol of the new year. It is said that on this day Lord Brahma created the universe. At the same time, this festival is considered very special for the farmers as well. Because the harvest season also starts from this day. Another belief regarding Ugadi is that on this day Lord Vishnu incarnated as a fish. It is said that the coronation of Lord Rama and King Yudhishthira also took place on this day.
