On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to him by offering flowers at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat.
Since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, Patel's birth anniversary has been celebrated as National Unity Day on October 31st. In the morning, PM Modi visited the 182-meter-tall statue of Patel near Ekta Nagar in Gujarat's Narmada district and paid tribute to the Iron Man of India by offering flowers.
A grand parade was held.
He then proceeded to a nearby venue where he is scheduled to administer the Unity Day pledge to the people present there and witness the National Unity Day parade. This year's National Unity Day celebrations include a cultural festival and a National Unity Day parade by police and paramilitary forces.
The parade is being conducted in a manner similar to the Republic Day parade.
The parade includes contingents from paramilitary forces such as the BSF and CRPF, and various state police forces. This year, the event has become even more special because the Unity Day Parade is being organised like the Republic Day Parade.
