
The US-India Trade Policy Forum (TPF) has been postponed to early next year, news agency ANI has confirmed. The bilateral meeting on trade between Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and his US counterpart Trade Representative Catherine Tai has been rescheduled for early next year citing the upcoming US mid-term elections in November.

Mid-term elections are due in the US on November 8. At the same time, the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh of India will be held on November 12. Apart from this, the dates of the Gujarat elections are also expected to be announced by the Election Commission.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and US Trade Representative Catherine Tei were to attend the meeting. Earlier in September, Goyal had a bilateral meeting with Tei on promoting trade and investment ties in Los Angeles.
This meeting was held in November last year.
The last meeting of TPF was held here in November last year after a gap of four years. In that meeting, it was decided by both sides to reorganize the TPF at the ministerial level before the end of 2022.
Sources said that at the level of the trade minister, discussions are taking place between the two countries at several forums. This discussion also includes the G20 and the Indo-Pacific Economic Prosperity Framework (IPEF).
An Indian government official told ANI that some top officials of the Biden administration, including US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, are expected to be in New Delhi on November 8 and February 13 this year.
