Pahalgam-like Incident in Maharashtra: First Asked for Religion, Then Attacked with a Knife for Refusing to Recite the Kalma; Suspicion of a Terror Conspiracy as Well

Posted on 28th Apr 2026 05:18 pm by rohit kumar

The stabbing incident that unfolded early Monday morning in the Mira Road area of Maharashtra’s Thane district has now taken a significant and alarming turn. This horrific event appears to be evolving from a mere criminal act into a matter of grave social concern. To understand the full scope of the situation: the frenzied knife attack launched against two security guards early Monday morning has left the entire locality shaken. Consequently, it is now being alleged that the attacker—much like in the Pahalgam terror attack—first demanded to know the religion of both security personnel and pressured them to recite the Kalma (Islamic creed). Upon their refusal, he ruthlessly unleashed a barrage of knife strikes, leaving both guards severely injured.

With the emergence of religious overtones and the demand to recite the Kalma in this case, the entire incident is increasingly being likened to the Pahalgam terror attack, a comparison that has rendered the matter even more sensitive. Although the police have taken swift action by arresting the 31-year-old accused, Zaib Zubair Ansari, the incident continues to raise serious questions regarding law and order, communal harmony, and public safety.

Understanding the Full Case

Tracing the incident from the beginning: two security guards were attacked with a knife in the Naya Nagar locality of Mira Road. It is alleged that the attacker—identified as Zaib Ansari—first exerted religious pressure on the two guards, demanding that they recite the Kalma. When both guards refused to comply, they were subjected to a knife attack. Following the incident, the injured guards were immediately rushed to a hospital, where, thanks to timely medical intervention, their condition is now reported to be stable.

BJP Leader Claims: Pressure Applied to Recite Kalma

The knife attack on two security guards in Mumbai’s Mira Road area has elicited political reactions. Commenting on the matter, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya stated that a new conspiracy—characterized by “Jihad-like” activities—appears to be gaining ground in the Naya Nagar locality. He alleges that the attacker pressured both guards to recite the Kalma and assaulted them when they refused to do so. He further stated that the accused appeared to be trained for such an assault, and strict action would be taken against individuals of this nature.

Shiv Sena Leader Terms Incident ‘Serious’

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC has reacted to the incident. She noted that while similar incidents have surfaced in Naya Nagar in the past, targeting an individual solely on the basis of their religion is a matter of grave concern. She emphasized that such occurrences foster an atmosphere of fear and instability in the locality—a situation that Maharashtra does not condone. According to her, Maharashtra has historically been renowned for its culture, values, and communal harmony, making the preservation of peace in the region absolutely essential.

Police Launch Investigation; Tension Mounts in the Area

Notably, amidst the escalating controversy and public discourse surrounding the matter, the police are currently engaged in investigating the case. Following the incident, tension has continued to rise throughout the locality. Given the gravity of the situation, the police have initiated a formal inquiry into the matter, and measures are being undertaken to apprehend the accused. Officials have stated that the investigation will be conducted from every conceivable angle to ensure that the truth comes to light.
