The reason behind a brawl between passengers on a Thai Smile Airways flight from Bangkok to India has come to light. According to the airline's report, the passenger sitting in seat 37C got into an altercation with other passengers who were angry with him for not following the safety rules, which quickly turned into a fight. On the other hand, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has also reacted in this matter.
He tweeted – A police complaint has been filed against those involved in the scuffle between passengers on a Thai Smile Airways flight. Such behavior is unacceptable. According to media reports, the police in Kolkata have registered a case against the accused passengers. This action has been taken on the complaint of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).
According to media reports, Thai Smile Airways has said that the incident happened on a flight coming from Thailand to Kolkata on December 26, when the crew asked passengers to straighten their seats during take-off. The report states that one of the passengers, who was seated in seat 37C, refused to adjust his seat saying that he had back pain.
Seat was not straightened even after repeated requests
The report added that the crew repeatedly requested the passenger and also explained the rationale behind keeping the seat upright during take-off and landing. They told him that in an emergency, the reclined seat could make evacuation difficult. In addition, a reclined seat can make it difficult for a passenger to get into the recommended bracing position for an emergency landing.
Despite this, the passenger seat remained reclined. He was also told that if he did not follow the rules, he would have to tell the Captain. The report states that the passenger told the crew that they were free to tell the captain, but that he would not recline his seat. Soon, other passengers started complaining about the passenger. One of them had an altercation with him, which soon turned into a fight.
A fellow passenger made a video of the fight
In this 51-second clip, two people can be seen arguing with each other. Meanwhile, a flight attendant tries to defuse the situation. However, the first one takes off his glasses and starts slapping the one who refused to adjust his seat. Soon, other passengers also join the brawl. During this, the other person just tries to escape.
After this 4-5 people gather around the person. One of them slaps the person by holding his hair. The flight attendant tries to separate the two but fails.
Take-off delayed after the incident
The report added that the take-off was delayed after the captain was informed about the incident. As soon as the matter calmed down, the plane was flown to Kolkata. There was no serious injury to any passenger in this incident. The report added that despite the violence, none of the passengers involved were offloaded and the flight continued on its journey.
Authority will take action against the culprits
Regarding this matter, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has said that they have taken cognizance of the matter and have sought a response from the responsible authority. Action will be taken against the culprits.
Users gave different reactions
Social media users are giving different reactions to this video. One user wrote – The people who beat will be in the custody of the police because the security at the airport is very strict. Another user said – They are fighting on the flight, maybe it is a matter of the seat. Another user said that such people only tarnish the image of India.
