New Delhi, Feb 10 (IANS) Fulfilling its poll promises might be an uphill task for the new AAP government following the party's sweeping victory in the Delhi assembly polls Tuesday.
It would be interesting to see how the party would bring the key legislation like Jan Lokpal and Swaraj. The previous 49-day Aam Aadmi Party government had resigned over the failure to introduce the anti-graft Jan Lokpal bill. The party has won 67 of the 70 seats in the Delhi assembly.
"Lokpal and Swaraj (self-rule) are as important as electricity and water," a senior AAP leader told IANS.
He, however, did not give an outline of the bills.
Besides, fulfilling their other promises like building 20 new colleges, two lakh public toilets and 47 fast-track courts and providing WiFi across Delhi will not be easy since the land owning agency comes under the central government.
On the issue of slashing power rates, the party will tread cautiously and take a decision only after analyzing the audit report of the power discoms, a party source said.
Though in its last stint the party had halved the power rates by providing subsidy within three days of coming to power in 2013, the experts had criticized the move saying the subsidy would cost the exchequer hugely.
