Brisbane, Feb 21 (IANS) Australia's cricket World Cup Pool A match against Bangladesh was abandoned without a ball being bowled at the Gabba here Saturday. Both teams will get one point each.

Heavy rain generated by Cyclone Marcia swamped Brisbane Friday and persisted again Saturday, meaning no play was possible.

The rain had eased early Saturday and with the Gabba famous for it's ability to drain quickly of surface water, there was some hope a reduced-overs match would be played later in the evening.

But a trough off the coast that was heading south changed direction and headed back towards Brisbane, lashing the city with even more rain.
