Bhupinder Singh Mann has withdrawn his name from a committee formed 2 days ago to talk to farmers on agricultural laws. President of Bhartiya Kisan Union, Bhupinder Singh said that he is with the farmers. He has issued a press release to explain the reason for the decision.
Bhupinder Singh said, 'I was given a place in the committee of four, I thank the Supreme Court for this. But, being a farmer and union leader, I am breaking away from this committee, given the apprehensions of common people and farmers. I cannot compromise the interests of Punjab and farmers. For this, I can sacrifice any post and will always stand with the farmers of Punjab. '
On 12 January, the Supreme Court constituted a four-member committee, while deciding the petitions challenging the agricultural laws. Apart from Bhupendra Singh Mann, it was named International Policy Expert Dr. Pramod Kumar Joshi, Agriculture Economist Ashok Gulati, and Anil Ghanwat of Shetkari Sanghatna, Maharashtra.
Earlier said - it is wrong to question the committee
The Supreme Court has stayed the implementation of the agricultural laws and has given the committee two months to present its suggestions. After the formation of this committee, when Bhupinder Singh was asked that farmers do not want to talk to the committee? On this, he said that the Supreme Court has formed a committee and it is wrong to raise the question of farmers' organizations. He had said that as a farmer, I will be fair and put my point before the government.
He had said, 'I have not spoken to the rest of the committee members. I do not want to say much. I will say that I will not do any work against the interest of farmers.
When he was asked that you supported these laws in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he said that until the committee is negotiated, I will not say anything about it.
Bhupinder Singh Mann's committee supported agricultural laws
Sardar Bhupinder Singh Mann, born on 5 September 1939 in Gujranwala (now in Pakistan), has always worked for farmers. Because of this, the President nominated him to the Rajya Sabha in 1990. He is also the chairman of the All India Farmers Coordination Committee. Mann has some objections to agricultural laws. His committee wrote a letter to Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on 14 December. In this, he supported the agricultural laws with some objections. The letter wrote, 'Today we have come forward to support the government in favor of those laws which have been passed under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji to free India's agricultural system.'
